Sunday 21st June saw twenty-six OLs and OLGS members tee up as guests of an OLGS host at six courses across the UK: Walton Heath, Worplesdon, St Enodoc, Ringway, Luffness and Gleneagles. The idea was pretty simple - by opening up a medal to non-OLGS members, we hoped to raise awareness of the society’s activities and encourage more OLs to join.

The initial response was very strong, with thirty non-members contacting the Secretary asking for more information. Unfortunately, year one only saw us attract ten OLs, with a great turnout out for Luffness.

This year the cream rose to the top, with James O. Guterman (2008) scoring 37 points off scratch at Ringway. A 69 for 36 points at Luffness by recent leaver Sean Y. Gallacher (2023) was equally commendable, and sufficient for second place.

All who participated had great fun on the day, and this is something both the Society and OLGS hope to build on in future years. Please stay tuned for more information about 2027’s event, and a possible return to Musselburgh Links, The Old Golf Course to celebrate 200 years of Loretto.
