We are deeply saddened to hear that Lord Alistair Darling has died at the age of 70.
Alistair Darling attended Loretto from 1966-1971 and, as an Old Lorettonian, was hugely admired and respected.
A Labour MP for 30 years, he is most widely known for serving in Cabinet for thirteen years, including as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2007 to 2010.
After standing down as an MP in 2015, he was nominated for a life peerage and created Baron Darling of Roulanish, of Great Bernera in the County of Ross and Cromarty, on 1 December 2015. He retired from the House of Lords in July 2020.
The Loretto School community offers our sincerest condolences to Alistair's family, friends and all those close to him.
A full obituary will follow in due course.
