Francesca B. McGhie (2019) continues to star for Scottish Rugby as the women’s side competes in the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
She helped the side get their campaign off to a blistering start by scoring a hat-trick in their opener against Wales, with her first try coming after only 55 seconds.
A solid team performance led Scotland to a 38-8 triumph – their biggest World Cup win in 31 years – but Francesca was undoubtedly central in this success and her incredible effort on the field saw her named Player of the Match.
It was a perfect World Cup debut for the winger, who initially trained as a ballet dancer before converting to rugby as a teenager. When interviewed by BBC Scotland, Francesca said, ‘I'd like to think that that performance was better than my first cap.’
Her hat-trick against Wales took her international try-scoring record to 13 in 23 games and Scotland head coach Bryan Easson told BBC Scotland that, ‘One-on-one, I don't think there's anybody better in the world. She's a world-class finisher without a doubt.’
Scotland’s next group B match is against Fiji in Manchester on Saturday 30th August, before they take on Canada (ranked 2nd in the world) in Exeter on Saturday 6th September. We strongly encourage all OLs to tune in and show Francesca their support or, better yet, back the team in person by buying tickets to their matches at
